PT Jamafac was established in 1949 in North Jakarta, making it one of the oldest match factories in Indonesia. Founded in the post-independence era, the company played an important role in laying the foundation of the local match industry. As demand increased, PT Jamafac expanded its production capacity by building new facilities in Padalarang, West Java, in 1973. This facility later became the company’s main manufacturing site and remains central to its operations today.
Throughout its journey, PT Jamafac has built strong strategic partnerships with international companies. Collaboration with Swedish Match began in 1971 and was further strengthened in 1996. The partnership was formalized in a joint venture agreement in 1999, under which Swedish Match acquired a 40 percent stake in PT Jamafac to reinforce its position in the Southeast Asian market. However, as part of a global restructuring strategy to streamline its match business operations, Swedish Match divested its shares in PT Jamafac in early 2006.
Since its establishment, PT Jamafac has consistently produced and distributed wooden safety matches across Java, Sumatra, and other islands throughout Indonesia, serving the domestic market with reliability and quality.
In the 1990s, the company began exporting limited quantities of its products to international markets, including Australia, Taiwan, Angola (Webcor), and Ghana (Sandeep), marking the beginning of its global expansion.
A significant milestone in the company’s export growth occurred in 2015 when PT Jamafac partnered with Webcor, a major consumer goods distributor headquartered in Dubai, to distribute wooden safety matches in Angola and Mozambique. As of 2025, PT Jamafac’s export volume to Africa has reached 381 million units annually, while domestic sales stand at 198 million units, demonstrating the company’s strong market presence both locally and internationally.
PT Jamafac’s flagship product is wooden safety matches marketed under the “3 Durian” trademark, a brand recognized for its quality and reliability. The production process utilizes locally sourced raw materials to ensure sustainability and consistent standards. The primary materials include pine and albasia wood for the matchsticks, while the match heads are manufactured using carefully formulated chemical components such as potassium chlorate, sulfur, and other ingredients.
With the continued growth of the wooden safety matches market in Africa, PT Jamafac is currently conducting further studies to expand its presence across the continent. By combining decades of manufacturing expertise, strategic global partnerships, and a commitment to quality, PT Jamafac remains dedicated to strengthening its position as a leading match manufacturer in both domestic and international markets.
