Lighter Business 

While PT Jamafac is historically recognized as one of Indonesia’s long-standing match producers, the company has also developed a significant business in the importation and distribution of lighters. Unlike its wooden safety matches products, PT Jamafac does not manufacture lighters. Instead, the company acts as the official consignee and importer of record for lighter products shipped from Swedish Match Philippines Inc. to Indonesia.

Type of Lighter Product

The imported product is classified as a disposable gas lighter with the specification “SNI FLINT.” This specification confirms compliance with the Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI), a mandatory national safety standard required for lighter products to be legally marketed and sold in Indonesia. Compliance with SNI ensures that the products meet strict safety, quality, and consumer protection requirements.

Historical Relationship with Swedish Match

PT Jamafac’s involvement in the lighter business is closely connected to its long-standing relationship with the Swedish Match group.

The partnership dates back to 1999, when Swedish Match acquired a 40 percent stake in PT Jamafac under a joint venture agreement. However, in 2005, as part of a global restructuring initiative aimed at streamlining its operations, Swedish Match divested its shares in PT Jamafac.

Despite the divestment, the commercial relationship between the two companies has continued. Import records in recent years demonstrate ongoing cooperation, with PT Jamafac now operating as a distributor and importer, bringing lighter products manufactured by Swedish Match Philippines Inc. into the Indonesian market. This evolution reflects a shift from joint venture ownership to a supplier–importer partnership model.

Current Distribution Channels

Today, PT Jamafac distributes Cricket lighters across Indonesia, reaching nearly all modern retail markets nationwide. These include major retail networks such as:

In addition to modern retail, since 2023 PT Jamafac has supported distribution to traditional markets through collaboration with PT Philip Morris Indonesia. Distribution is carried out via SRC (Sampoerna Retail Community) stores, strengthening the company’s reach into community-based retail channels throughout the country.

PT Jamafac also has a presence in event-based markets, supplying Cricket lighters for product launch events, weddings, and other special occasions.

Future Outlook

PT Jamafac’s lighter business centers on importing and distributing disposable gas lighters manufactured by Swedish Match Philippines Inc. This business line represents a continuation of its historical relationship with Swedish Match—transitioning from a former joint venture structure to a modern supplier–importer partnership—while successfully expanding distribution across modern retail, traditional market and event-based channels throughout Indonesia.
